Alex Trebek, the beloved longtime host of the game show “Jeopardy!,” just spoke out to give fans a new update about his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Fox News reported that in a video recorded from his home, the 79 year-old icon announced that for the first time ever, “Jeopardy!” will be rebroadcasting vintage episodes of the series for the remainder of July and into August because of the coronavirus pandemic.
At the end of the video, Trebek updated his fans on his fight against cancer.
“I’m doing well,” he said. “I’ve been continuing my treatment and it is paying off. Though it does fatigue me a great deal, my numbers are good. I’m feeling great. In fact, during the break from the studio, I even wrote a book that will be coming out July 21st.”
Trebek was referring to his new book “The Answer is…: Reflections on My Life,” which is due to come out next week.

In March of 2019, Trebek shocked the world when he announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Since then, Trebek has been undergoing rounds of chemotherapy while being open about his cancer journey with his devoted fans.
In the new video, the host let fans know what they can expect from “Jeopardy!” in the coming weeks now that the show has run out of new episodes to air.
“Now, in the meantime, I’m here at home recording show openings for some very special ‘Jeopardy!’ episodes that will be coming up in July,” he said. “For the first time ever, we are going to open the ‘Jeopardy!’ vaults and take another look at some of our favorite episodes, including the very first ‘Jeopardy!’ show I ever hosted — mustache and all.”
Producers explained on the game show’s website that they had “combed through 8,000 episodes and have selected 20 shows that highlight key moments, contestants and gameplay over the course of 36 seasons, many of which have not been aired since their original broadcast.”
At the end of the video, Trebek made it clear that he has every intention to return to hosting new episodes of “Jeopardy!” as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic allows him to do so.
“Once again, I can’t wait to return to the studio and start recording shows for the new season in September,” Trebek concluded. “Meanwhile, my wish for all of you — stay safe.”
