A royal expert is speaking out this week to say that Queen Elizabeth will be “distressed” to hear that Meghan Markle is claiming that she did not feel “protected” during her pregnancy.
Daily Mail reported that royal editor Russell Myers said that the Queen and other senior members of the British royal family will be upset to hear to that Meghan is alleging that the royal family failed to protect her when she was pregnant with her son Archie in 2019.
This claim was made in court documents in relation to Meghan’s legal battle against the Associated Newspapers Limited, publishers of The Mail On Sunday.
Myers explained that the upcoming books set to be released this summer that claim to be telling “the truth” about Meghan and Prince Harry’s exodus from the royal family will only add to the hurt the Queen and her family are experiencing. He described the situation as “very very sad indeed.”
“They’re all also disturbing readings for the royal family. They will be really, really distressed,” Myers said.
He went on to add that he had taken a look back at the public statements the Queen made back in January after Meghan and Harry announced that they were stepping down as senior royals.
“I think at the time, and certainly reading back on them now, they’re very, very heartfelt,” Myers said.
“The queen mentions family, how they took Meghan into their heart of the family, how she was so impressed with her. And certainly these claims that she felt unprotected, especially when pregnant, will be very, very distressing to hear for the Queen, Philip, Charles, Kate and William.”
This comes after Meghan said in court documents that she felt “unprotected by the institution of the royal family” during her pregnancy and was “prohibited from defending herself” from media attacks at the time.
Meghan’s lawyers argued in legal filings that she had “become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health.”
Television host Lorraine Kelly said that while she agreed with Myers that it was “very very sad” that Meghan felt this way during her pregnancy, she also felt like these revelations would only divide the royal family further.
“This is not gonna help, is it?” Kelly said.
“They looked like they were just coming together and then BAM you’ve got this.”
