Ghislaine Maxwell, the alleged former madam of the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, just got more bad news from a federal judge when her request for a gag order was denied.

CNBC reported that as she shot down the gag order request, Judge Alison Nathan warned prosecutors, defense lawyers and attorneys for Maxwell’s accusers as well as for other witnesses that she “not hesitate to take appropriate action in the face of violations of any relevant rules” when it comes to public statements that would negatively impact the 58 year-old British socialite’s chances of getting a fair trial.

“The Court will ensure strict compliance with those rules and will ensure that the Defendant’s right to a fair trial will be safeguarded,” Nathan wrote in a filing.

This was in response to Maxwell’s lawyers saying in their request that federal prosecutors and witnesses’ attorneys “have made, and continue to make, statements prejudicial to a fair trial” for the defendant. Her attorneys cited a local court rule that bars law enforcement officials and lawyers from revealing nonpublic information or opinion that could impede a defendant’s right to a fair trial.

“It appears that given any opportunity lawyers associated with the prosecution of this case will offer any opinion that damages Ms. Maxwell’s opportunity for a fair trial,” their filing said.

However, Nathan fired back in a filing of her own stating that she “firmly expects that counsel for all involved parties will exercise great care to ensure compliance with this Court’s local rules … and the rules of professional responsibility.”

“In light of this clear expectation, the Court does not believe that further action is needed at this time to protect the Defendant’s right to a fair trial by an impartial jury,” Nathan wrote.

The small bit of good news is that Nathan denied the request “without prejudice,” meaning that Maxwell’s lawyers can refile the request in the future if they feel the need to.

Maxwell was arrested earlier this month on six charges related to her allegedly grooming young girls for sex with Epstein. Nathan has ordered that Maxwell be held without bail until her trial in July of 2021, arguing that she poses an extreme flight risk given her immense wealth and her international connections.
