A former Miss Kentucky has been sentenced to two years in prison for sending nude photos of herself to a student at the West Virginia middle school where she worked.

Daily Mail reported that Ramsey BethAnn Bearse, 29, admitted to sending the photos and plead guilty to one count of possessing material depicting minors in sexually explicit conduct back in December. A judge sentenced her to two years behind bars on Tuesday. She had originally been charged with four counts of sending obscene material to a minor.

Police said that Bearse admitted to exchanging photos with the student on Snapchat between August and October 2018. She was caught after the boy’s parents found the photos on his phone. Kanawha Assistant Prosecutor Meshell Jarrett said that Bearse will also have an additional 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender for life.

Bearse claimed in court that she meant to send the photos to her husband, but sent them to the teenager by mistake. She added that when the teenager asked for more photos, she only sent them because she was “afraid to not appease him.” The former teacher said at her sentencing that she takes “full responsibility” for her actions.

“Since I am the adult, and he was just a teenager, it is my fault, and I accept full blame for the situation,’ Bearse said back in December. “So that’s how I’m guilty of this crime. I messed up big-time.”

Bearse was crowned Miss Kentucky under her maiden name of Carpenter back in 2014, and she went on to compete in the Miss America pageant. In her home state’s pageant, Bearse won the judges over by playing bluegrass music on her fiddle.

During her reign as Miss Kentucky, she acted as a spokeswoman for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Bearse was open about the fact that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2010, and she often gave interviews about her condition.

Bearse was suspended from her teaching job as soon as the investigation into her conduct started, and the Kanawha County school district has since confirmed that she is no longer employed there.
