The Hollywood star Charlie Sheen just celebrated a major milestone when he marked the one year anniversary of when he quit smoking cigarettes.

“dear @my lungs, it was one year ago TODAY, that i quit smoking ! hashtag – YOU’RE WELCOME !” he tweeted alongside a photo of a cigarette.

“If i could go back in time and have NEVER STARTED, i would absolutely do so ! if you are on the fence about quitting, trust me; the sooner the better ! happy 4th !”

Sheen celebrated two years of sobriety back in December, and he revealed on “Jay Leno’s Garage” what led him to living a sober lifestyle.

“About a year and a half ago, it just hit me that I knew it was time to make a change — and you know, it didn’t require some crazy rehab stint or a shootout with the cops. It didn’t require anything super-dramatic and crazy and front-page news,” he explained.

Sheen added that staying sober isn’t actually a struggle for him.

“I came to it on my own,” he said. “It was just one of those epiphany moments.”

“All I have to do is flash on four or five scenarios that live on the forefront of my memory and just remind myself this is what happened,” Sheen explained.

“I don’t put myself in positions where dangerous things could happen. I just have a confidence and a focus, and a game plan and I stick to it.”

Sheen had previously said on ITV’s “Loose Women” that his children were the main reason why he decided to get sober.

“I couldn’t get my daughter to an appointment that she had. I don’t drink and drive ever, I have never had a DUI,” Sheen said.

“I was like, ‘Wow, I am not even responsible enough to be available for my children’s needs.’ The next morning I woke up and was like, ‘Today is the day.’”

He also said that if his children have anything “dangerous or unhealthy” they want to talk about, that he has “all the knowledge.”

“I don’t come at them with judgment or anything but love,” he said.

“My experiences can prevent them from going down a similar road and so the whole journey wasn’t a complete waste of time. I have all the data.”
