The historical and cultural illiteracy being displayed across America today is overwhelming. Leftist no-nothings desecrate memorials and tear down statues of people who fought to end slavery.
And now, the Associated Press is reporting a St. Johns, Michigan couple, Kjersten and Greg Offenecker, have removed a Norwegian flag which they had been proudly flying outside their Nordic Pineapple Bed-and-Breakfast opposite an American flag. They placed Norway’s flag there to honor Kjersten’s Norwegian-born grandfather.
Why did they remove it? The answer is disturbing. The AP reported the Offeneckers “have removed a Norwegian flag outside of their business after being accused of promoting racism from people who think that it is a Confederate flag.” No, really. This is not from The Onion or the Babylon Bee. Apparently, this really happened.

I see two problems (at least). One, that anyone would be stupid enough to mistake Norway’s national flag for a Confederate battle flag. Though both flags use the same colors, their configurations aren’t even close.
The Confederate flag uses a diagonal cross (an X), and the Norwegian flag uses white and blue off-centered, overlapping crosses. The former has 13 white stars within the blue cross, the latter has no other symbols.
The other problem is that the Offeneckers would tacitly support this lunacy by taking the flag down based on such an erroneous accusation. Isn’t this rewarding bullies, specifically stupid bullies? After saying he believes “they are two distinct flags,” he not only removed the Norwegian flag but also took down the American flag as well.
Though some locals have asked the couple to put the flag back up, the Offeneckers said, “they won’t until they can figure out a way to make sure it is not mistaken for the Confederate flag.” Like how? Putting a sign beneath it with an arrow pointing to the flag that reads, “Hey, moron. This is not a Confederate flag.”
Why do so many good, obviously conscientious (to a fault) folks, like the Offeneckers, join in this new “cancel culture” dance? The AP article mentions the couple has two black children, and they say “they have done their best to help their children navigate racism in America and the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.”
That might not be so bad, depending on how much emphasis they give to the “America is a terrible racist country lie.” However, the next comment shows they may have swallowed a big mouthful of BLM and Antifa’s anti-police myth. Kjersten Offenecker said, “It’s more than this one instance for Black people. It’s not just this one person. This was the straw that broke the proverbial back.”
No, it wasn’t. For example, in the Seattle Police Department (SPD), the feds were in the process of lifting the consent decree placed on them a decade ago. Then the incident in Minneapolis changed all that. Since then, the SPD has gone from compliant with the consent decree to the city council looking to defund the police department by 50 percent.
No, what happened to Mr. Floyd wasn’t the last straw. It was the next “crisis” the Marxists were waiting to exploit, to divide America and tear down its traditions. And the radicals, including the Democratic Party and the mainstream media, have been more successful than anyone could have imagined.

Consider what the anti-police, anti-American activists have accomplished. They have made it so people not only complain to have the actual Confederate Stars & Bars removed from public places but also to remove the national flag of Norway, which looks nothing like the Confederate flag, from a private business.
Can we please stop this bemusement park rollercoaster ride? I want to get off, now.
