CBS New York reporter Nina Kapur was tragically killed on Saturday in a moped accident in New York City. She was only 26 years-old.

The New York Post reported that Kapur was a passenger on the moped as it was being driven in Brooklyn by an unknown man at around 5:30pm on Saturday. Police said that the accident occurred when “the operator swerved for an unknown reason,” sending both Kapur and the driver into the roadway.

Both Kapur and the driver were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where the young reporter tragically passed away. The male driver, whose relationship to Kapur is not known at this time, was left with minor injuries. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is currently investigating this crash.

“Reporter Nina Kapur joined the team in June 2019 and was known for her contagious smile and love for storytelling,” the CBS New York said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Nina’s family. She will be missed.”

Friends and classmates from Syracuse University, where Kapur attended college, have been taking to social media to pay tribute to her in the wake of her death.

“This is the nina kapur i met in college: excellent at what she did while wearing a big smile on her face,” one friend of hers tweeted. “I remember telling her i couldn’t wait to watch her on national news one day… she deserved more. praying for her family and loved ones.”

Kapur’s colleagues at CBS New York have been paying tribute to her as well.

Nina Kapur was such a hard-working journalist and a kind person to everyone in school & in the newsroom. We lost a great one this weekend. Wow.”
