On Monday, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy was called out publicly by the team’s star running back for wearing a One America Network (OAN) shirt on a recent fishing trip.
Many consider OAN an extreme right-wing network, known for pushing conspiracy theories. Recently, a host allegedly called the idea of Black Lives Matter a “farce.”
The player, Chuba Hubbard, said Gundy’s shirt choice was “completely insensitive to everything going on in society” and that he would not do “anything with Oklahoma State until things CHANGE.”
Well, things changed.
“I had a great meeting with our team today. Our players expressed their feelings as individuals and as team members. They helped me see through their eyes how the T-shirt affected their hearts. Once I learned how that network felt about Black Lives Matter, I was disgusted and knew it was completely unacceptable to me.
“I want to apologize to all members of our team, former players and their families for the pain and discomfort that has been caused over the last two days. Black Lives Matters to me. Our players matter to me. These meetings with our team have been eye-opening and will result in positive changes for Oklahoma State football. I sincerely hope the Oklahoma State family near and far will accept my humble apology as we move forward.”
I don’t see what was wrong with the shirt. So Gundy has a different opinion than a player, so what? He is allowed to have that opinion. Is anyone going to put the player on blast for trying to cancel someone with an opposing view the same way people put the coach on blast?

I am so tired of these athletes and their so-called “platforms!” The school should have told him to either play football or lose his scholarship. Athletes go to college free in exchange for playing a sport. Not playing because everyone doesn’t always see things your way should mean you forfeit your scholarship. Everyone is not going to agree on everything.

Earlier Tuesday, Hubbard wrote on Twitter: “I was never wrong for saying what I said. I am a man, and I realized I should have went to him as a man face to face rather than on twitter. That’s my opinion. But I had to hold him accountable either way. I am glad things happened the way they did because things are being changed as we speak!
“I am a young black man that wants change. I want change that will bring a better experience for my black brothers and sisters at Oklahoma State. It’s that simple. Over these next few months I have left at Oklahoma State, I will be working EVERYDAY to bring change to this organization and to the world. I will be supported by my teammates along with people within this organization. To everyone else, trust me when I say that good will come from this.”
Can we hold this young man accountable for his ignorance and lack of tolerance towards a different point of view? Get over yourself! It appears OSU has failed this kid to be observant and tolerant of others!
It’s time to fight back. Socialism is finally taking over, and we are allowing it. They riot, and politicians are accepting it and enabling change. We can also riot.
