It’s was President Trump’s 74th birthday yesterday, and groups of boaters across Florida decided to get together and pay a special tribute to him. Several flotillas paraded across Florida waters to honor President Trump on his special day, and to celebrate Flag Day.

Trump supporters have organized and encouraged these boat parades as a way to show support for the President while also practicing social distancing to help slow the spread of coronavirus. In Tampa Bay, hundreds of boats decked out in Trump and American flags took to the waters Sunday. One parade organizer, Sherri Gerland of Apollo Beach, told the Tampa Bay Times, “To see all the boats and the spirit and flags and just the patriotism, I don’t know, it gave me chill bumps.” Gerland estimated that between 200-300 boats showed up for the parade in Tampa Bay. She was near the front of the parade aboard her 26-foot boat she owns, and told the news outlet, “Looking back at it, you could see this wall of water and boats. It was overwhelming.”

Few mainstream media outlets have covered these pro-Trump flotillas, as those outlets appear to remain focused on stories pertaining to COVID-19 and the George Floyd death aftermath. However seeing the videos and pictures from the flotillas is a reminder that that’s not what America is about. We aren’t a nation of fear, hate, dissension, and constant angst. This – the amazing boat parade, filled with happiness, patriotism, and fun – is what America is truly about. You can watch the video of one of the Florida parades below:

The Tampa-area boat parade began around 11am off Apollo Beach, and later anchored in the area ahead of the parade, per the Tampa Bay Times. The news outlet reported one boat was blasting the Journey song “Don’t Stop Believing,” while almost all of the boats were flying a mixture of American flags, Trump flags, and “thin blue line” flags reflecting their support for law enforcement.

It’s difficult to imagine Joe Biden garnering this level of enthusiasm, despite what the media-flouted polls show this campaign cycle. One thing is for certain: the support President Trump has from many across America as we inch closer to Election Day is undeniably deep and awe-inspiring.
