Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced on Thursday that she was leaving the pack being considered to be former veep Joe Biden’s vice presidential nominee. Klobuchar told the press she rang up Biden Wednesday evening with her decision, commenting she believes “this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket.”

Said Klobuchar, “After what I’ve seen in my state and what I’ve seen across the country, this is a historic moment and America must seize on this moment. There are so many incredibly qualified women. But if you want to heal this nation right now, my party, yes, but our nation, this sure is a hell of a way to do it. And that’s just what I think after being through this in my state.”

But her decision has much more to do with demographics and her past than it does with her desire for a “woman of color.” Klobuchar, who talks as if she is an understudy in a summer stock rendition of “Fargo,” is not this season’s look of choice for the Democrats. Knowing that she would be passed over anyway just on that factor, she quit before losing the contest. Of course, if the situation were reversed and the Democrats were only looking for women of non-color, i.e. a white woman, well, that would be considered racism. Same concept applied to different races. Funny how that double standard is accepted as normal by many far and wide across this nation.

Klobuchar also suffers from her past as a Minneapolis prosecutor, which makes her politically radioactive in the present Democrat political environment. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) has the same handicap. The Black Lives Matter group and the “defund the police” movement believe that almost any prosecution of any “person of color,” there is no issue with the prosecution of the apparently non-pigmented, is by its nature unjust and steeped in racial hate. Thus to have prosecuted many in any big city, like Minneapolis, a prosecutor is sure to run afoul of that standard.

A third and lesser factor was the weakness of Klobuchar’s presidential run. She made no impression on the debate stage and was never in the top tier of candidates. With many Democrats wondering how well Biden will survive on the stump or in debate with President Trump, there is the perception among Democrats that Klobuchar could have dragged the ticket down even further.

Joe Biden tweeted in response to Klobuchar’s withdrawal, “Amy, from the moment you announced you were running for president in a snowstorm, it wasn’t hard to see you had the grit and determination to do anything you set your mind to. You know how to get things done. With your help, we’re going to beat Donald Trump.”

With Klobuchar out of the running for veep, Biden is still looking at Senator Elizabeth Warren (bad choice), Senator Kamala Harris (also bad), former National Security Adviser Susan Rice (mundane choice), Florida Rep. Val Demings (ho-hum choice), Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (good choice), and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (very good choice, politically).
