New reports are coming in stating that country music legend Reba McEntire is having a difficult time with the fact that Kelly Clarkson is getting a divorce from her former stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
McEntire was married to Blackstock’s father Narvel Blackstock from 1989 until 2015, and she has been close friends with Clarkson for many years. A source told US Weekly that Clarkson has been leaning on McEntire since news of her divorce broke.
“[Kelly] broke the news to Reba,” the insider said. “Reba’s supportive of both Brandon and Kelly’s decision to split. She’s anguished about it, but she’s not one to judge.”
McEntire had opened up to US Weekly last year about the bond she shares with Clarkson.
“We’re family,” she said of Clarkson. “She married my oldest son, Brandon [Blackstock], but we’re also good friends, so that goes a long way — when you can have a good friend as a part of your family.”
Another person that Clarkson has been leaning on is her fellow judge on “The Voice” Blake Shelton. Though Blackstock is Shelton’s former manager, the country singer has still been there for Clarkson throughout this difficult time.
“Blake has been supportive and the friend she has needed, as always,” another source said. “Blake and Kelly often joke they are siblings.”
Fans were stunned last week when Clarkson announced that she had filed for divorce from Blackstock after seven years of marriage and two children together. It has since been reported that the quarantine due to coronavirus was the final nail in the coffin for their marriage.
“They clashed on so many levels and being in quarantine together heightened their problems to the point of no return,” a source said. “So she filed for divorce.”
“It was a stressful time,” another source told People magazine. “[Quarantining in Montana] exacerbated any issues.”
A third source said that Clarkson and Blackstock have “been like friends for a while,” and that work demands had put a major strain on their relationship.
“Things had changed in their marriage and the split was a while coming,” said the insider. “They both work so hard. It’s nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention.”
