Prince William just shocked everyone by revealing that he has been doing his part amidst the coronavirus pandemic by volunteering at a COVID-19 crisis helpline.

Fox News reported that William revealed his work with Shout 85258, an around-the-clock text messaging helpline that was developed by the Royal Foundation, to mark Volunteers Week.

In a video call to his fellow volunteers that was shared on social media late Friday, William said, “I’m going to share a little secret with you guys, but I’m actually on the platform volunteering.”

“I have been following with interest how men and women from around the world, including my own family, have been helping and recognising the vital role of the volunteer,” William said, according to BBC

“I send my best wishes to all those who give themselves so freely and selflessly in the service of others.”

William, who is currently second in line for the throne behind his father Prince William, is one of over 2,000 volunteers who have been formally trained to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

Over 300,000 text conversations have taken place between volunteers and people, with around 65% of those texting being under the age of 25.

William’s wife Kate Middleton has also been doing her part by participating in “check in and chat” calls with people self-isolating or vulnerable during the pandemic.

“You guys are out there volunteering in your own ways, everyone’s got something to give back,” Kate said during a recent call, according to USA Today.

This comes after the royals shared a new photo of walking with two of his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, as he held an umbrella over them.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photo taken by The Duchess as they played their own part in the national volunteering effort,” the caption of the photo read.

“In April, The Duke and Duchess and their family visited the Sandringham Estate where they packed up and delivered food parcels to isolated pensioners in the local area.”
