Meghan Markle is reportedly having a difficult time dealing with the “white privilege” scandal of her best friend Jessica Mulroney, who was fired by ABC last week after she threatened the black fashion influencer Sasha Exeter.

Exeter said that the controversy began when Mulroney “took offense” to a call to action she had posted for the Black Lives Matter movement, adding that she then used her “textbook white privilege” to send her a “threat in writing.” Mulroney has since apologized, pledging “to do better” when it comes to “engaging in the important and difficult conversation around race and injustice in our society.”

The damage, however, has already been done. Not only was Mulroney fired from her gig as a stylist on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” her reality television show “I Do, Redo” has been cancelled as well.

A source close to Meghan told Entertainment Tonight that she thinks Mulroney was “so tone deaf while using her privilege to bully Sasha Exeter.” The source added that Mulroney has apologized to Markle privately for her comments, which the insider describes as “out of touch and disappointing.”

Meghan has been placed in a very difficult position with the timing of all of this, as she and her husband Prince Harry have spent the past few weeks “listening and learning from community leaders about Black Lives Matters” amid the recent protests over the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Meghan is now reportedly embarrassed that she has been dragged into her best friend’s race scandal, and she wants no part in it.

“Meghan and Harry have always supported policies of diversity and inclusivity,” the source continued, adding that Meghan found learning of Mulroney’s comments to be “hurtful.”

Markle and Mulroney, who is Canadian, have been best friends since before her marriage to Harry. They met during Markle’s time starring on the television show “Suits,” which was filmed in Mulroney’s hometown of Toronto.
