Earlier this year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world when they stepped down as senior members of the British royal family. Now, this move appears to have backfired on them, as they have been branded the “big losers” in the entire situation by a royal expert.

Phil Damper, who wrote the book “Prince Philip: Wise Words and Golden Gaffes,” said that Meghan and Harry missed the opportunity of seeing their public image be boosted amidst the coronavirus pandemic when they chose to leave the royal family.

“I think the lockdown has been good image-wise for all of the royals except for Harry and Meghan,” Dampier told the U.K. Express. “They are the big losers in this because they now look somewhat isolated and somewhat irrelevant in this country.

“They still might have a massive role to play internationally or in America but I think people just shrug their shoulders in the UK,” he added. “They’re just not really interested whereas all the other royals have gone up in popularity and have also played their roles very well.”

Since leaving the royal family, Meghan and Harry have moved to her hometown of Los Angeles, California, where they are living in the $18 million mansion of Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry while they look for a home of their own in the area.

This comes after it was reported that Meghan is “absolutely mortified” by the “tone deaf” comments that her best friend Jessica Mulroney made to a black social media influencer. Mulroney was fired from her gig at ABC after she threatened to sue the influencer, and a close friend of Meghan’s said she can “no longer be associated with her.”

“Meghan is absolutely mortified that she’s been dragged into this complete mess,” the friend explained. “She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation (with the fashion influencer) was tone-deaf and heartbreaking.”

“Meghan said friends reflect friends and because of what’s at stake she can no longer be associated with Jessica, at least not in public,” the friend added. “She has to do what she has to do in order to preserve her dignity and her own reputation.”
