Laine Hardy, the soulful singer who won “American Idol” last year, has just revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Fox News reported that the 19 year-old singer, who hails from Livingston, Louisiana, revealed his diagnosis to his fans in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“This wasn’t what I expected on the first day of summer,” Hardy wrote in the post. “My doctor confirmed I have Coronavirus, but my symptoms are mild and I’m home recovering in quarantine. Y’all stay safe & healthy!”

Hardy had just performed on Friday night, when he sang the national anthem at swearing-in ceremonies for Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard’s third term. He also just performed in a virtual tour that was watched by more than 2 million viewers, with his next scheduled performance set to take place this coming Thursday night.

In addition, acoustic versions of his new songs “Ground I Grew Up On” and “Let There Be Country” were set to drop on Friday. It’s unknown at this times if dates for his livestream and new music dropping will be pushed back as he battles COVID-19.

This comes a year after Hardy was crowned the latest champion of “American Idol,” beating out Alejandro Aranda, who finished as runner-up, and Madison VanDenburg, who placed third.

Back in April, Hardy revealed to Taste of Country that the fame and fortune that comes with winning “American Idol” hasn’t changed him much.

“I saved that money,” he said of the prize money. “I’m using it for recording and necessary things. I used my own money from playing shows in 2017 and 18 to buy a brand new truck and a used boat.”

During his time on “American Idol,” Hardy became known for his old school style of singing, and he plans to stick with that in his career going forward.

“I grew up listening to like ‘50s, ’60s, ‘70s, even ‘80s stuff. That’s what I really listen to now,” he explained.

Despite everything that has happened in the past year, Hardy describes himself as an introvert who still can’t believe he actually won “American Idol.”

“At no point in the show last year, (did I) think I was gonna win,” he said.
