Prince Philip is set to hit a major milestone tomorrow that few human beings are ever able to hit, as he is preparing to turn 99 years of age. Now, his plans for his big day have been revealed, and despite the fact that this is an incredible milestone, Philip is reportedly planning to keep things low-key.

Hello Magazine reported that while there will be no big party for Philip’s birthday, both he and the Queen will enjoy quietly celebrating the occasion with video calls with family and friends.

“Given the panorama of experience they share, their interest in their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I’m sure talking to them on the phone on video calls is a pleasure they share,” said Robert Lacey, author of the biographies Monarch and Majesty.  “The Duke has always been the gadget man and he must revel in it in that sense.”

Philip likely has no problem with the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has made any gathering for his birthday impossible, as one insider said that the royals “don’t really celebrate birthdays without a nought.”

“He is suspicious of fuss, but I think there’ll be a quiet glow of pride there and quite justified,” Lacey added. “That’s always been his style. Lowkey, but tremendously solid support.”

Since retiring back in 2017 from royal duties, Philip has spent the bulk of his time at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he made sure to reunite with the Queen and self-isolate with her at Windsor Castle so that they could be together.

“When it came to the prospect [of isolating] he didn’t want to stay on at Sandringham on his own,” Lacey explained. “As each of them looked at the challenge ahead, they wanted to be together.”

“He will be supporting her morally in the way that he always has,” the expert added. “She will value that companionship much more than if he were at the other end of a telephone.”

Fox News reported that prior to his retirement, Philip had a long list of achievements during his decades of public service that included 5,496 speeches, written 14 books and gone on 637 solo visits overseas. Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, said that many would likely be surprised to learn of everything that he has done, which is just fine with Philip.

“I think probably a lot of people don’t know what he’s done because he doesn’t like adulation,” Seward said. “He doesn’t like fame. He just gets on with it.’’

“I think he shaped the queen’s reign very subtly, and people don’t really know what he’s done,″ she added. “So he’s managed to do things without being noticed, which is what he wants.”
