Last month, we reported that legendary comedic actor Fred Willard of Best In Show fame had tragically passed away at 86. Now, the star’s cause of death has finally been revealed.
TMZ reported that Willard’s death certificate shows that he passed away of cardiac arrest at 6:45 pm on May 15, with his daughter Hope W. Mulbarger being listed as the informant. She had told Fox News after his death that her father died “peacefully.”
“He kept moving, working and making us happy until the very end. We loved him so very much!” Mulbarger said at the time. “We will miss him forever.”

The death certificate also said that Willard has been buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, and that he suffered from the underlying conditions of coronary artery disease and myelodysplastic syndrome.

Willard had made audiences laugh for decades finding success as a comedic character actor who appeared in numerous film and television roles. His best known film roles include Best In Show as well as For Your Consideration, A Mighty Wind,” and Anchorman.
Television brought Willard great success as well, as he earned three Emmy nominations for his work on “Everybody Loves Raymond.” A fourth Emmy nomination came for his recurring guest starring role on “Modern Family,” which he concluded just a few months ago. Posthumously, Willard can be seen playing the father of Steve Carrell’s character on the new Netflix comedy series “Space Force.”
Behind the scenes, Willard ran a sketch-writing workshop known as the MoHo Group with his wife starting in 2006.
“That’s always been my favorite thing: sketches,” he told L.A. Weekly in 2016. “Because if the audience doesn’t like something, it’s over in four or five minutes and you go on to something new. You know how you go to a theater and after 10 minutes you say, ‘Oh, I don’t like this thing,’ but you don’t want to get up and leave? At a sketch show, it’s always something new every few minutes.”
