It has just been revealed that Dennis Quaid, 66, secretly eloped with 27 year-old Laura Savoie earlier this month at a seaside resort in Santa Barbara, California.

“It was beautiful,” Quaid told People magazine, which reported that the elopement took place on June 2.

“Just looking into her eyes, she was the most stunning bride,” the Parent Trap star added.

Quaid an Savoie had initially planned to marry in Hawaii back in April, with a second reception for family and friends in Nashville, Tennessee at a later date. However, the coronavirus pandemic derailed all of these plans, forcing them to postpone their wedding indefinitely.

However, the couple did not seem to let this ruin their wedding day when it finally took place this month. Savoie said afterwards that she was especially moved by their officiant’s message “of what it really means to bring your lives together.”

“To put another person before yourself,” she added.

Quaid and Savoie, who is a doctoral student, reportedly met at a business event before they began dating in May of 2019. This is the fourth marriage for Quaid, who said that “it was love at first sight” when he met Savoie.

“I just love who she is as a person,” Quaid said of her. “Her character, her intelligence, of course, her beauty. And her point of view of the world.”

Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Savoie went on to attend Pepperdine University, where she was the valedictorian of her class. She then headed to the University of Notre Dame, where she earned a master’s degree in accountancy.

When asked about Quaid, Savoie said she “has never met someone who is so in love with life.”

“It’s like nothing can bring him down,” she added. “Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me. It changes my perspective and it brings so much joy to every day.”

Late last year, Quaid opened up to The Guardian about criticisms he’s faced for dating someone so much younger than he is.

“That was really a laugh,” he said. “I thought it was wonderful actually.”

Quaid went on to say that he and Savoie don’t take negative comments about their relationship seriously.

“No, it really doesn’t bother us,” he continued. “Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel; I can’t even get angry.”

He also said that he had never intended to date someone in their 20s.

“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me,” Quaid explained. “I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed.

“You have no control over who you fall in love with,” he concluded. “I don’t fall in love easily. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that. I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
