Smack dab in the middle of a pandemic, the Senate voted today on whether to override Trump’s veto on the Iran war powers resolution.

The resolution to limit Trump’s powers came up after he protected our country and ordered a drone strike against Iranian terrorist Gen. Qassem Soleimani in January that resulted in his death.

The resolution passed the Senate in February and the House in March and it said that the United States “should not enter a new war without the congressional debate and vote our Constitution requires.”

Apparently they don’t know the difference between a war and a drone strike. And because it was Trump who droned someone and not Obama, they got all pissy about the whole thing.

Trump responded to the bill by saying, “This was a very insulting resolution introduced by Democrats as part of a strategy to win an election on November 3rd by dividing the Republican Party. The few (8) Republicans who voted for it played right into their hands.” His whole statement can be read here

Luckily for the safety of our country, the senators didn’t have the needed 2/3 support to override the veto and it ended up dying 49-44, not getting the 67 votes that they needed.

Among the senators who voted to override the president’s veto included seven Republicans: Lamar Alexander (TN), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Susan Collins (ME), Mike Lee (UT), Rand Paul (KY), Todd Young (IN) and Bill Cassidy (LA).

The democrats surely knew they didn’t have the votes so why did they do this?

Politics, of course. Pandemic or no pandemic, the democrats have a playbook of what they intend to do between now and November in order to win the election and this was #456 on a list of thousands of ideas. So they sent the bill to Trump’s desk on Tuesday.

It’s also a diversion so that the democrats can talk about this instead of the corrupt Obama/Biden administration and what they did to Michael Flynn.
