Retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink made an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Monday in which he revealed what every Americans should stop and think about on Memorial Day.
“[I want to] remind people that the soldier, sailor, airman or Marine that we talk about in kind of abstract terms, I want people to remember that these are human beings, that these are people with families, hopes and dreams and that they sacrificed everything that they have so that we can have freedom,” said Willink, who hosts the “Jocko Podcast.”

Willink spent twenty years in the U.S. military and he led the most highly decorated U.S. special operations unit of the Iraq war, and he added that on this holiday, his thoughts are with his comrades who died in battle.
“I think not only of them but of the soldiers and Marines that we served alongside who were making sacrifices every day and we’re here 15 years later and we’re living an incredible life and have these opportunities every day and I’ll never forget that the opportunities that we have now are because of those who laid down their life for us,” he said, according to Fox News.
Willink also wrote and narrated a Prager U video that gives tribute to those who have served their country.
Willink added that while Americans should always remember the men and women who gave their lives, they should not be “somber” as they enjoy Memorial Day with friends and family.
“I know that my friends that gave their lives, they wouldn’t want me to have a somber day. … They want me to enjoy this great country that they made such a sacrifice for,” he said.
President Donald Trump celebrated Memorial Day by making appearances at Arlington National Cemetery and Baltimore’s historic Fort McHenry. There, he spoke out to honor fallen members of the U.S. military who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
“We remember the young Americans who never got the chance to grow old, but whose legacy will outlive us all. In every generation, these intrepid souls kissed goodbye to their families and loved ones,” Trump said, according to ABC News. “They took flight in planes, set sail in ships and marched into battle with our flag, fighting for our country, defending our people.”
