A high court in London just believed some devastating news to Meghan Markel, who is trying to sue a tabloid newspaper for breaching her privacy.
The court was ruling on a case over a private letter that Meghan wrote to her father, which was then shared with the tabloid paper.
Meghan is suing The Mail and its parent company Associated Newspapers for publishing a letter she wrote to her dad privately.
The civil lawsuit claims that the publication committed copyright infringement, misuse of private information, and violating the U.K.’s data protection law.
However, the high court did not agree and they said the paper did not act “dishonestly” in printing the private letter.
London’s High Court on Friday threw out part of a claim brought by Meghan, Britain’s Duchess of Sussex, against a tabloid newspaper for breaching her privacy, ruling that it had not acted dishonestly.
Meghan, wife of Queen Elizabeth’s grandson Prince Harry, is suing publisher Associated Newspapers over articles its Mail on Sunday newspaper printed last year which included parts of a letter she had sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.
At a hearing last week, the paper’s lawyer argued that allegations it had acted dishonestly, had stoked the family rift and conducted an agenda against the Duchess of Sussex by publishing offensive, false stories, should not be included.
“I agree that all three categories of allegation should be struck out of the Particulars of Claim,” judge Mark Warby said in his ruling.
He said some of the issues were irrelevant, not properly detailed or disproportionate for the purposes of the case.
Meghan’s husband Prince Harry is a notorious hater of the press. He and Meghan tried to warn Meghan’s father to stay away from the press – and said they were vultures who would trick and manipulate him.
Well, they were right – and now as a result, Meghan and her father are no longer speaking.
