Brian May, known for being the guitarist of the band Queen, got a “reality check” of sorts that he never saw coming as he was gardening in quarantine amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

May took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal to his followers why he has been “quiet” on social media lately.

“As well as getting over-stretched and harassed by too many demands…I managed to rip my Gluteus Maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening,” May wrote in the caption of his post. The 72 year-old went on to say that he ended up in so much pain that he went to the hospital to have tests done.

“Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while…or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless,” he added.

May continued by saying that he would be taking a break from social media for awhile to focus on resting.

“I need to go dark for a while, getting some complete rest, at home,” he wrote. “Please, please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while. I’ll be back – but I need the complete break. OK ? Thanks. Take care out there. Bri.”

This came just days after May teamed up with his band’s drummer Roger Taylor and singer Adam Lambert to perform a new version of the classic Queen song “We Are The Champions.” This version was meant to honor healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was retitled “You Are The Champions.”

“I thought, this is a great way to use the legacy that we have to do some good in the world,” May said as he released the song. “You know, we don’t really need to make money anymore. We don’t need to be any more famous. We need to use what we have in the best possible way.”

He was open at the time about how difficult life in quarantine has been for him.

“It doesn’t get any easier as time gets on. It’s getting worse if anything,” May said. “I feel like everything that I worked for in my life has been kind of taken away and put somewhere where I can’t reach it.”
