A newspaper, as opposed to a journal of opinion like this publication, is supposed to retain a modicum of objectivity and balance. The Washington Post, owned by Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, decided to chuck that, in the ideological sense, long ago.
But grownups in the journalism business usually make a pretense of not sounding like puppy-love smitten adolescents. But not The Washington Post when it is talking about failed Democrat state politician Stacey Abrams. Check out this from a Sunday article on her by Kevin Powell. You can almost see his tears of slobbering devotion staining the news print: “Pandemonium ensues as she walks to the far left of the stage like a runway supermodel, stops on a dime, poses, tilts her head slightly and smiles. Camera flashes, explodes and Abrams is summoning her inner actress and both enjoying the moment in getting through it to get to the conversation.” It’s like reading Powell’s diary. You know, the one with little ponies and rainbows on it.
And “supermodel”? Vestiges of editorial chivalry, even in regards to a woman who thinks (if you could call it thinking) the way Abrams does precludes me from writing the lines I would like to write concerning the surreal spectacle that encompass Ms. Abrams’ potential career as a supermodel.
However, I can safely say, my knight-errant honor intact, that if Abrams prowls the catwalks of Paris and Milan for Ford models then I can confidently assume my ascension to the throne of Neptune is not far off.
Fortunately for us, Tucker Carlson does not have my sensitive scruples: “Even by the usual standards of over-the-top slobbering hackery, this piece exists in its own category. By the end of the nearly 6,000 words of unmitigated praise, you begin to wonder why no one has yet formed a religion based on Stacey Abrams—the world’s fourth great Abrahamic faith.”
Okay, that’s a great line. And 6000 words? Have you any idea how tough it must be to come up with 6000 words, sober, on a subject like Stacey Abrams? This is just around 500 words and I’m already reaching for my weapons-grade meth.
When she lost the 2018 Georgia governor’s race, Abrams, said Carlson, “declared herself governor anyway and denounced anyone who disagreed with that as a racist. Instead of calling the state mental health authorities as they might have done, fellow Democrats played along with the fantasy.”
They have a tendency to do that. Remember Gore’s little maneuver in 2000? Then there was the “not my president” campaign against Bush the Younger. Followed by every loony (and some not loony but treasonous) move the progs have made against Trump to try and destroy the credibility of his presidency. Like spoiled children, the progs hate to lose and thus will call into serious question the legitimacy of anyone who beats them.
Speaking of beating them, I must admit I want Powell and Abrams to be encouraged and supported. Because there is no surer way to guarantee a Trump victory than to make Abrams Biden’s running mate. The very thought of it should give Republicans and conservatives good cheer. The Washington Post is doing the GOP’s work for them.
Since Mr. Bezos has many business interests in China, it’s possible, by his championship of Biden and Abrams, he thinks he is advancing that agenda, not a Republican one. But nah, we’re all on board an Abrams VP choice. So thanks, Jeff. We’ll make sure you get a ticket to the reelection inauguration. Cheap seats, of course.
