Mayor Bill de Blasio has made the decision to change tactics regarding the city’s “face mask rule,” allowing the New York Police Department to relax arresting restrictions and reset its enforcement approach.

Last week, de Blasio responded to a video on Twitter that shows a group of NYPD officers arresting a black mother and forcing her face to the ground of a dirty subway for not properly donning the mask she appeared to be wearing:

The NYPD was widely criticized after the video surfaced. The police department has also come under scrutiny over its enforcement of social-distancing policies resulting in a disproportionate number of summonses to people of color. “Absent a serious danger to the public, NYPD will not take enforcement action for failing to wear face mask coverings,” the mayor said. “NYPD will continue to enforce the ban on non-essential gatherings, prioritizing dispersing groups of six-plus adults,” de Blasio added.

After the mayor made his statement, NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea reportedly released an email to his department reiterating Mayor de Blasio’s orders not to make arrests for face-covering infractions and small-group gatherings. An NYPD spokesperson said in a statement to NBC News that the change in enforcement on masks is “essential.” The statement also read, “In this unprecedented pandemic, trust and collaboration is more critical than ever as we all work together to ensure public safety.”

While de Blasio and other Democrat officials throughout the nation are releasing violent murderers and sex offenders from incarceration “because of the virus,” they’re simultaneously issuing orders that mandate law enforcement officials arrest and detain citizens for wearing face masks improperly. As the virus-related lockdowns drag on, it becomes more and more evident that many leftist officials are attempting to manipulate law enforcement under their command into government-directed military and security services with a PR team; when the nation gets a glimpse of what these elected officials’ orders look like while being enforced on the streets, they’re the first to point fingers at the police officers as being the problem, not themselves.

This entire issue is especially troubling since numerous studies have shown that face masks might actually do more harm to some than good. Even Dr. Anthony Fauci and the U.S. Surgeon General highlighted that weeks ago, stating that wearing face masks can often cause people to touch their faces more frequently than usual, thereby potentially increasing their exposure to various germs while they’re out and about in public. At Friday’s press conference, Dr. Fauci was seen donning a face mask while standing behind President Donald Trump. Fauci repeatedly touched his face and mask throughout the conference, proving the point he once made during his interview with “60 Minutes” back in early April.

We’ve gone from our virus “task force” leaders convincing us we didn’t need face masks, to more recently telling us everyone does need to wear them. Radical mayors are waiting in queue to capitalize on the flip-flopping recommendations as more justification to infringe on the basic rights of their constituencies—unless, of course, the disturbing fallout from the enforcement of those policies makes national news.
