The rapper Ice Cube just shocked everyone by revealing he engaged in a feud with the legendary children’s television performer Mr. Rogers, who once sued him for a track he released back in 1990.

Fox News reported that Cube revealed this while hosting an Instagram live on Wednesday in celebration of the 30th anniversary of his album “AmeriKKKA’s Most Wanted.” During this live, the 50 year-old rapper recalled that the late television star Fred Rogers sued him over a sound bite used in the track “A Gangsta’s Fairytale.”

Cube explained that Rogers was furious that the song used the theme song to “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” which was called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

“I actually wrote this for Eazy-E. But y’all know what it is, we wasn’t getting down at the time so I had to take it myself,” the rapper said. “It’s a trip. Because, off this song, Mr. Rogers sued us. He was mad because we had the ‘Mister Rogers’ theme at the beginning of this s—. ‘It’s a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood’ and all that.”

Cube went on to say that Rogers was “getting like five cents a record until we took that part off.”

Rogers, who passed away back in 2003 at the age of 74, taught generations of children about kindness and various other life lessons. He continues to be dearly missed by the fans who grew up with him to this day.

“People were important to him,” his widow Joanne Rogers told People magazine for its inaugural Kindness Issue in November. “He was to me and to the family who he is to everybody else.”

Rogers married Joanne in 1952, and they remained together until his death 51 years-later. Now 91 years-old, Joanne said she still has fond memories of her time with Rogers.

“If Fred found out a friend was ill, he would make regular calls and visits,” she said. “When a high school friend in South Carolina had cancer, Fred went, even though he had hurt his ankle and was on crutches. It was very important for Fred to be there.”

Fans will certainly be surprised to learn that Rogers once engaged in a heated feud with a rapper. I guess you really do learn something new every day!
