Fans of the beloved reality television show “Duck Dynasty” are in shock today after family patriarch Phil Robertson admits he cheated on his wife Kay, who he has been married too for 54 years, and has an adult daughter with another woman.

People magazine reported that Phil and his sons Al, Jase, Jep and Willie revealed this bombshell during the Unashamed podcast, where they revealed that they only recently learned that the devoted Christian patriarch has an adult daughter. Al explained on the podcast that this all started when he received a letter from a 45 year-old woman named Phyliss, who claimed to be his sister.

“So basically, it was from a woman who said that by a DNA search, she thinks that dad might be her dad,” Al said, adding that he initially “dismissed” the letter because Phyliss was born after Phil became a Christian in the 1970s.

Phil has always been open about cheating on Kay in the past, but he has claimed that all stopped when he found God in the 1970s. However, it seems Phyliss was conceived just before he fully devoted his life to the church.

“Well once we get into that and start looking at it a little more deeply, I’m like, ‘Oh woah, woah… there might be something to this,'” Al said, adding that he didn’t want to tell his dad about the letter right away, in case it wasn’t true.

“We both concluded, this is not one of those frivolous things we’ve got,” said Jase, who also got a letter from Phyliss. Al agreed, saying, “we had to pursue it.”

“I started thinking, there’s a 45-year-old woman out there who doesn’t know who her dad is, and she’s looking,” Al continued. “And I thought, even if it’s not dad, she needs to know it’s not dad.”

Finally, Al told his parents about the letter, and Phil agreed to take a DNA tests. When the results came back, they were a “99.9 percent match.”

Phil interrupted at this point to say that when he first learned about the letter, he said “bring her on down” so he could meet her.

“We know that in all things — in all things — even sin, God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose,” Phil said, paraphrasing the biblical verse Romans 8:28.

Phil went on to say that the entire family has since met Phyllis, and that she will be appearing on an upcoming episode of the podcast.

“It’s a pretty cool explanation of redemption, reconciliation, love,” Phil said. “As it turns out, 45 years, you have a daughter that you don’t know about, and she has a father she doesn’t know about. 45 years that doesn’t sound like very long but you say, that’s a while. So finally, after all those years, we come together.”

“It was super awesome, I was so excited,” Jep said, adding that he always wished he had a sister growing up in a family with all brothers. “It was like a dream come true.”
