America is ready to get back to work, back to school, and back to business. We want to do that safely, but most Americans, just like the president, also realize that there are health and long term national dangers involved in keeping the country shut down for too much longer.
But not Democrats. They couldn’t care less about the damage to the economy or any long term injury to the nation. They are enjoying the increased attention given to their governors and they are especially pleased with the vast expansion of government power this public health crisis has entailed. And they don’t want it to end.
That’s why Democrat governors like Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan are being dragged kicking and screaming to a May 1st reopen date. That’s why Democrat Ralph Northam of Virginia has used the crisis to enact unconstitutional restrictions on gun sales. That’s why Democrat governors in Kansas and Kentucky have used the virus to crack down on the practice of faith in their states. It should all be a lesson to those states. That’s what you get when you put a Democrat in the governor’s mansion.
The restriction of the sale of some items and the power to close down businesses are the stuff socialist Democrat dreams are made of. And the power to keep citizens at home so they cannot protest over harsh and unnecessary economic and social policies regarding the virus negates the constitutionally guaranteed right of redress of grievance. Given most of those grievances are against Democrats, no wonder Democrats love keeping their own citizens locked tight away and thus not able to stage mass protests.
When the crisis is over a debate must be held to decide just how much power governors have in a crisis. As Democrat governors have abused their mandate, we must ensure that they are never allowed to do so again. The Constitution and its limits on government is the law of the land for all Americans, including overreaching Democrat governors.
