Sen. Tom Cotton has been outspoken about the origin of the coronavirus being released from a Wuhan Laboratory even though a director at the facility claims it didn’t originate there.

Cotton joined Fox News on Monday to discuss this new response from the Wuhan lab director, and as you will see, Cotton doesn’t believe a word coming from a country that continues to hide their COVID-19 data.

Fox News’ Ed Henry asked, “When you have the head of the Wuhan lab denying that the virus came from that lab, that it’s, quote/unquote impossible, coming on the heels of the Chinese government officially denying Bret Baier’s reporting, exclusive reporting last week, about where all of this may have started.”

Sen. Cotton responded, “Yes, let’s take a look at that laboratory director. He’s not just some independent truth-seeking scientist, Ed. He is an official in the Chinese Communist Party who is toeing the party line.”

Cotton continued, “We all know, and we’ve known since January, that that food market in Wuhan was not the source of this virus. Chinese scientists established that more than a third of all the original case had no contact with the food market. The best evidence suggests that the kind of bat from which this virus jumped to humans wasn’t even present there.”

“And then you have all the circumstantial evidence pointing at the labs in Wuhan. They did have those bats. They did research China — or these coronavirus. Our diplomats in China were worried about laboratory safety there. China has a history of bad laboratory safety. All that circumstantial evidence points towards the labs,” he also added.

“And then, of course, you have the Chinese cover-ups, the lies, the disinformation, the intimidation of any potential whistle-blowers. That’s why the most plausible explanation for the origins of these viruses is one of those two labs in Wuhan,” he concluded.

Unfortunately, as long as China can hold lifesaving pharmaceuticals and other vital products hostage, we may not have enough leverage. I do think we can expedite the manufacture of drugs and other medical devices in this country, but there are other issues. Chief among them is the revenue from exporting agricultural goods.

Ultimately, saying screw-you to the Chinese and defaulting on our debt would be satisfying, but I’m not sure we’ll be able to do it now.
