According to CNN, De’ onte Roberts argued with his mother and stepfather, Bernie Hargrove, 42, leaving their Atlanta home against their wishes.

When De’ onte returned home, he allegedly kicked in the door to enter the house, which led to a physical altercation with Hargrove.

An argument over Georgia’s shelter-in-place order led to a fight that left a 16-year-old dead and his stepfather in the Fulton County Jail. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “During that altercation, the victim was shot.” Roberts was shot in the chest and died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

De’ onte’s mother and younger sibling were inside the home when he was shot. Police reports claim Hargrove has been charged with felony murder.

Authorities have urged people to remain calm when domestic tensions rise during stay-at-home orders.

Atlanta Police Capt. D’Andrea Price tells KSB-TV; “When the pressure gets hot, you just have to take a deep breath and you have to separate. People are on top of each other right now. We’re staying in the house.”

On the one hand, you don’t bring a gun to a fight unless you intend to kill someone. On the other hand, you don’t kick a homeowner’s door down and not expect them to defend their home.

Speaking from hard experience, a stepfather can only take so much crap from a kid. At the max point, the kid is either going to get beaten half to death, get free from the stepfather, or get murdered.

As a minor, he is required to have a stable home and a guardian to take care of him. He had every right to enter the house. He shouldn’t have kicked the door in, but he still had the right to live there.

Many fathers have been driven to thinking about killing their rebellious punk sons like this. If I were on the jury, I might let the guy off.
