Well, this is a hell of a departure… and one hell of a department.
The New Mexico Rio Rancho Police Department released video footage of an event where it arrested one of its own for beating up his girlfriend. I felt bad for those officers, that must have been hard. Also, did you notice none of them would look him in the eye, that had to hurt him? If what this officer did is true I am glad the police department is taking the matter seriously and impartial.

The video (below) shows Wharton arrested prior to beginning his shift. The suspect in question was taken into custody by detectives due to a warrant for his arrest from his department. I really like the fact they did it in front of the entire department. Cutting off his uniform and taking him to jail with plenty of female officers! It sends a huge message that nobody is above the law!
According to the report, Wharton allegedly beat his girlfriend in such a way physically, her head and face and several gashes. The report goes on to say that her injuries were so severe, she had to be taken to the hospital where physicians diagnosed her with bleeding in the brain. Oddly enough, some of the assault was captured on the couple’s “RING” doorbell system.
Officers were waiting for Wharton armed with a felony warrant so there was no way he was going to have a chance with retaliation. At one point in the video, you’ll see them removing his duty belt and searching him. Cutting off his uniform is tame as in the old days when a cavalryman’s sword was broken in front of him and his rank was cut off his uniform in front of the troops.
You can just tell by how he’s acting he’s wishing the ground would open up and swallow him because he’s just realized the thin blue line has moved a few inches and he’s standing on the wrong side of it Karma can be a bitch and certainly has a sense of humor.
Wharton resigned from APD shortly after this arrest. APD says Wharton had been with the department since November 2010. He was a senior officer with the department. His trial is pending.
