Yesterday Dr. Fauci made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows and caused quite a stir when he suggested that more could have been done earlier, but he got “pushback” from the administration.
Here’s what Fauci said:
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, said Sunday that earlier efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus in the U.S. “obviously” could have saved lives but top health officials faced “a lot of pushback about shutting things down.”
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was responding on CNN’s “State of the Union” to a New York Times report stating that President Donald Trump’s top public health officials concluded by the third week of February that they should recommend to the president a new approach to COVID-19, which included social distancing steps. But, according to The Times, the White House “focused instead on messaging and crucial additional weeks went by before their views were reluctantly accepted by the president — time when the virus spread largely unimpeded.”
“We look at it from a pure health standpoint,” Fauci told CNN. “We make a recommendation. Often, the recommendation is taken. Sometimes, it’s not. But … it is what it is. We are where we are right now.”
President Trump came out and quickly defended himself, calling the assertion that he didn’t do enough “fake news” in a tweet.
Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up. Thank you @OANN https://t.co/d40JQkUZg5

However, today during the daily Corona presser Dr. Fauci walked back the comments and said that he used a poor choice of words. He explained what he meant, saying it was a back-n-forth with several people who were bringing up relevant reasons why certain things could be problematic and did not involve President Trump.
But it was what a reporter said that really irked Fauci.
The woman reporter asked him he was being”forced” to say this – insinuating that President Trump was “strong-arming” him into back-peddling.
You can watch the video below:
Dr Fauci got a lil taste of what @realDonaldTrump goes through when this bish “reporter” asks him if he is saying his words “voluntarily”.
The look he gives her says it all. 🔥#EnemyOfThePeople https://t.co/9U3kQfeRkz

Good to see Dr. Fauci walk back that statement and clarify. It gave the press exactly what they wanted – a reason to “blame” President Trump and that’s unfair. He’s done a great job and continues to do amazing for the American people.
