A Rhode Island teacher who offered to pay someone with the coronavirus to cough on President Trump is now under investigation.

The Woonsocket School Department won’t name names, but Committee Chairman Paul Bourget told WJAR he discussed the controversial Twitter post on Sunday night with Superintendent Paul McGee, and they launched an investigation on Monday.

Bourget said district officials are working toward “concrete evidence and a concrete determination” before taking action, but said he expected a decision on the “serious matter” by the committee’s April 8 meeting.

Online sleuths fingered sixth grade Villa Nova Middle School teacher Amy Bednarz as the mastermind behind the anonymous Twitter account “Proud Teacher” by connecting past comments and photos to her personal social media accounts.

On Sunday, Proud Teacher tweeted: “Somebody with Covid 19, I will pay you to cough on #Trump.”

Corey A. DeAngelis, director of school choice for the Reason Foundation, was the first to expose Bendarz, within hours of the post.

“This ‘Proud Teacher’ is Amy Bednarz. She also stalks school choice supporters,” he wrote.

Keri Rodriguez, president of the National Parents Union, detailed her troubling encounters with Bednarz in a 2017 blog post.

“Sometimes Amy likes to call me fat in response to tweets that have nothing to do with education,” Rodriguez wrote. “Sometimes when I write something that she REALLY doesn’t like she threatens to directly come to my house.

“Amy has even done her research to find out the name of the street I live on end even my phone number, which she calls on a regular basis,” Rodriguez wrote.

The Gateway Pundit uncovered other Twitter posts from the now deleted Proud Teacher account that point back to Bednarz.

“Villa Nova MS,” Proud Teacher wrote in response to an inquiry about where she works. “I teach 6th grade newcomer ESL classes.”

The Woonsocket School District lists “Amiee Bednarz” as a Grade 6 ESL teacher at Villa Nova.

When a Gateway Pundit reporter contacted the teacher on her personal Facebook account about photos of her cat that match up with Proud Teacher posts, the Proud Teacher account disappeared.

The news site attempted to contact district officials about the apparent threat to the president but never heard back.

By Tuesday, even the Rhode Island Education Commissioner Angelica Infante-Green was talking about the disgusting comment.

“It is unprofessional and sends the wrong message during a time when our whole education community is setting a national example,” Infante-Green tweeted. “This is not acceptable and certainly not representative of the overwhelming majority of RI teachers.”
