A homeowner in the Chicago area put a quick end to an attempted break-in during the coronavirus lockdown.

Doorbell footage released by police show two intruders–Bradley Finnan, 39, and Larry Brodacz, 58–approaching a home in Chicago wearing masks, gloves, caps, and black jackets. When they tried to open the door, and found it locked, they spotted the doorbell camera. One of the intruders approached the camera and looked directly into it, before knocking on the door.

The door opens, and then one of the intruders can be heard saying, “Hey, how you doing boss?” Both men then barge into the home.

Shouting can then be heard, including a female voice repeatedly yelling, “Hey!”

A few moment later, the male homeowner, barefoot in a red t-shirt, shoves Finnan out the door. He pins him to the ground and punches him repeatedly.

As the homeowner yells for help, Finnan escapes his grip and the homeowner runs back inside the home.

After a struggle, the homeowner went back in to get a gun from a safe as he saw Brodacz pointing a gun at his wife and two children, police said. Brodacz, also armed with a knife, then attacked the home owner, police said.

“Fearing for his life and the lives of his wife and children, the homeowner discharged a round from the family handgun, striking Mr. Brodacz in the abdomen,” police said in the statement.

Brodacz, 58, fell to the floor died, police said. The family went outside to wait for the police. [Fox 32]

Finnan was caught by the police and arrested with felony murder and two counts of home invasion, police said. He is due in court on Tuesday.

According to The Daily Herald, an Illinois statute allows defendants to be charged with murder if they take part in a felony offense that leads to another person’s death.
