Comedian Ricky Gervais spoke out to roast all the self-centered, attention-seeking celebrities who have been trying to make quarantine all about themselves amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Gervais told The New York Times that all the celebrities posting coronavirus-themed #StayatHome videos all have two things in common: a sense of self-importance and neediness.
“I’ve got nothing against anyone being a celebrity or being famous. I think that people are just a bit tired of being lectured to,” he said. “Now celebrities think: ‘The general public needs to see my face. They can’t get to the cinema — I need to do something.’ And it’s when you look into their eyes, you know that, even if they’re doing something good, they’re sort of thinking, ‘I could weep at what a good person I am.’ Oh dear.”
Posts from celebrities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic have been everything from funny to wacky to downright nauseating. The most infamous post so far has to have been “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot’s star-studded rendition of “Imagine.” This did not go over well, to say the least!
“We are in this together, we will get through it together.”

One of the most bizarre celebrity posts came when Madonna got philosophical about coronavirus while hanging out in her bathroom. “What’s terrible about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways and what’s wonderful about is, is that it’s made us all equal in many ways,” she said.

They were far from the only celebrities who made it clear just how desperate they are for attention:

This is far from the first time that Gervais has dared to call out celebrities for their overinflated egos. Back in January, he roasted the elites of Hollywood for their political preaching while hosting the Golden Globe Awards: “So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a political platform to make a political speech,” Gervais said during his monologue. “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f*** off. OK?”
We applaud Gervais for having the courage to call out smug Hollywood elites for their nonsense, and we hope he never stops!
