Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 (coronavirus) stay-at-home order just got worse as she took a hard turn left, banning travel to another home within Michigan’s borders, even to visit friends or relatives, or to go to a vacation home.
Call this a form of abuse, but the current stay-at-home is now extended until May 1st. How do you even enforce this type of request? I guess it’s true, Dems think that love and family interactions aren’t essential to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
This is the problem with liberals; they can’t solve a problem directly and quickly. Instead of imposing an enforced quarantine of those infected (and let everyone else work), they just lock everyone down and destroy the economy in the process. This is the biggest hoax in history, and they’ve destroyed our economy and country due to their incompetence.
Future generations are going to look back on these clowns and wonder how many of them were ever put in charge of anything.
“Michigan has the third-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, and we’re still on the upswing. We must continue to do everything we can to slow the spread and protect our families,” Whitmer said in a statement, according to Detroit’s WXYZ-TV.
Some exceptions to the order — which takes effect Saturday — are caring for a relative or their pet, a child, an elderly or disabled person, visiting someone in a health care facility, or attending a funeral with fewer than 10 people.
“All public and private gatherings of any size are prohibited. People can still leave the house for outdoor activities…recreational activities are still permitted as long as they’re taking place outside of six feet from anyone else,” Whitmer said in a news conference, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Residents may visit a home outside of the state or return to Michigan from another state or drive to a Michigan state park, the Free Press reported.
“All other travel is prohibited, including all travel to vacation rentals,” the order says, according to WXYZ. [FoxNews]
A highly contagious respiratory illness will only end once the population has established immunity. This is either through a vaccine of exposure. These lockdowns will slow the spread, but once they are lifted, we will see a resurgence of the illness, necessitating another lockdown. Can we do this for another 18 months? As cold as it sounds, it may be better to let the virus run its course.
These are difficult times. However, I think this governor has gone too far in the impingement of our freedoms according to our Constitution. Just because she’s clueless is no reason for us to accept her draconian “solution.”
Whitmer needs to be replaced with someone competent before it’s too late.
