A few thousand inmates will soon be released in order to reduce the potential of more coronavirus outbreaks.
The prison environment presents perfect grounds for the spread of any infectious disease. With that being said, it may be within our best interest to reduce the number of possible infections that would stem from the poor health conditions of prison cells.
TMZ stated that the plan is to systematically release inmates who were convicted of nonviolent crimes and those who are due to be released within 60 days. On top of that, a delay will be in place for those who are going into prison because no transfers will be allowed until further notice.

“As we first reported … jail inmates feared the worst as early as March 6. An inmate getting out of L.A. County Men’s Central Jail said he experienced deplorable conditions while locked up for carjacking. Another inmate told us no one from the jail told the inmates anything about coronavirus or how to prevent it. A lot has changed in a matter of weeks.”[TMZ]

In the first three days of such screening, 170 workers had temperatures and were turned away. At the same time, 886 employees on Sunday called in sick for work, a number that CDCR spokeswoman Dana Simas said is not large given the size of the workforce.”[LA Times]

In my mind, the main focus should be put on those who are entering the prison because they are realistically the only ones who could cause an outbreak.
