Justin Amash, an independent Michigan House Representative and former republican, is thinking about running for president as a libertarian. Amash seems to have an identity crisis, switching parties as the wind blows.

Amash, a representative out of Grand Rapids, Michigan announced that he has launched a committee to explore running for president.

The good news is that it appears that he’s going to help Trump.

Libertarians and green party candidates basically always vote for their parties no matter who is running. That’s a given.

But whose votes is he going to siphon off?

Joe Biden’s.

Amash is not going to get Trump voters on his side because they are loyal and happy with the president’s policies and accomplishments.

So Amash would be looking to pick off some of the Never Trump folks to vote for him. These are people who might have been thinking about voting for Biden as a last resort but now can vote for Amash.

As the election campaigns heat up, people are going to see Biden’s senility more than ever and his sexual assault allegations might actually become more widely known. The Never Trumpers who were resigned to vote for Biden might have a new choice now, splitting their votes between both Amash and Biden.

Amash thinks that he is the answer to a legitimate and meaningful presidency saying, “We’re ready for a presidency that will restore respect for our Constitution…”

Say what? Is Trump the one forcing a nationwide lockdown on us? No, our governors are doing that to us. I’ve seen plenty of respect for the constitution coming from Trump.

Amash, another politician with Trump Derangement Syndrome, joined the democrats in voting for an impeachment inquiry into President Trump, often criticizes the president and has called him immoral. He also tweeted about the Mueller report saying that the president “engaged in impeachable conduct.”

Never Trumper George Conway understands the problem with an Amash presidential candidacy. George is the husband of KellyAnne Conway, the president’s counselor. Although he admires Amash (of course) for standing up against Trump, he also thinks that running for president is a bad idea.

Conway tweeted, “Needless to say, my views align more closely with Amash’s than Biden’s. But the only real effect Amash could have in this campaign is to enhance Trump’s chances. This is a terrible idea.”

A poll in the summer of last year confirms Conway’s prediction. The poll was taken in Michigan with 600 voters and it was found that Amash would cut Biden’s lead against Trump by six points.

The Twitterverse isn’t too happy with Amash either. Never Trumper Bill Kristol tweeted, “If Amash gets the Libertarian nomination and stays in until the end, he could wind up going in the books as the guy who voted to impeach Trump one year, then tipped the election to him 11 months later.”

Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson got 4.6 million votes in 2016 (3.3% of the overall vote) and it’s possible for Amash to get more votes than that if he decides to run and he really goes after Biden’s vulnerabilities.

Johnson got more votes than the difference between Clinton and Trump in 11 states in the 2016 election so that is probably making the democrats very nervous.
