Quarantine has made celebrating things quite difficult for just about everyone.

Just like many others, Cain Carlton celebrated his birthday and while his family couldn’t hold a traditional birthday party , the “party” was a small parade of emergency vehicles that drove by his home in Lapeer Township with their lights and sirens activated.

Cain’s godmother Lauren Kinnie called Lapeer County Central Dispatch 911 early Wednesday morning to inquire whether anything could be done to organize a drive-by vehicle salute for her godson.

Her call got the ball rolling and before they knew it,  Lapeer Twp. Police Chief Bill Stokes had organized an impromptu parade of vehicles.

The officers and medical frontline responders and their vehicles staged in the parking lot of The County Press not far from Cain’s home. Led by Stokes in the department’s Dodge Durango, the parade included vehicles from the Lapeer Twp. Police Dept., Lapeer Police Dept., the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept., the Michigan State Police, the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources and Lapeer County EMS.

Not sure that’s the best use of taxpayer dollars, but at least this kid had great ninth birthday…

His mother, Rachel Carlton, told The County Press “I couldn’t believe they would do all this for us. Chief Stokes is a great guy to make this happen.”
