The two heads of President Trump’s virus medical team. Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, are undergoing sustained ideological attacks from the media and the Left over politics. But they are not politicians. They are medical pros trying to do their jobs in a supercharged political environment and the sniping they have to endure is not making their jobs any easier.
Dr. Fauci, who sometimes is not at the daily briefings because he is somewhere else doing his job, has had to deal with media rumors of his firing. This is despite the fact that the president has publicly expressed his confidence in Fauci numerous times. Both Birx and Fauci have also undergone wacky interpretations of their records, as both have for decades worked at the top echelons of the public health field.
Fauci has been a prominent medical leader since the 1980s and the AIDS issue. Birx is a career U.S. Army officer and a protege of Dr. Fauci. Because of their length of federal service there are those who have labeled them pawns of the “Deep State”, “New World Order”, or some other type of wacky nefarious grouping. They both have served several administrations, including the Obama regime, and thus the canard goes that they were fans of Obama policies.
What people making those accusations don’t seem to realize is that by definition a career member of the civil service or the military will serve the federal government regardless of the administration. Just because a portion of that time was spent under Obama does not make them hard left Democrats. And if they were their close association with President Trump has likely sundered that relationship.
Dr. Birx has even come under scrutiny because of her scarves. While GOP wags have said, “Stilettos or just sneakers would make a better statement,” the Left and the media have mocked her fashion choice as proof of her out of touch cultural predispositions.
Loony conspiracy theories and petty caterwauling seem to be the mark of media and left-wing criticism of the doctors and a worse criticism of the president. Such is the gravitas that the Left and the media are using to analyze the performance of these two outstanding medical professionals.
