Given the fact that millions of people all over the world are living in isolation right now, it can be hard sometimes to remember that we really are all in this together.
That’s why it’s so touching that Switzerland just did something truly touching as a show of solidarity to the United States to show us all that we are not alone.
Fox News reported that the Embassy of Switzerland took to social media on Thursday to share an image of the American flag being protected onto the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps.
“Switzerland is sending hope and strength to the United States of America,” the photo was captioned.
The flag was projected onto the iconic peak by artist Gerry Hofstetter, who has been projecting different images each night from 10 p.m. to midnight. Zermatt Tourism, which is located in the town of Zermatt at the base of the mountain, explained that the projections are meant to spread messages of unity and hope to the world.
“As it stands, the USA is the country that has been most impacted by the COVID-19 crisis with the highest number of confirmed cases,” the tourism company said. “Our thoughts are with all American people at this unprecedented time.”
“May our message convey solidarity and give you hope and strength,” the company added. “We look forward to meeting again at the foot of the Matterhorn. We are all in this together.”
This comes as the coronavirus situation in the U.S. is only getting more dire, with Fox News reporting that there were 640,000 as of Thursday afternoon. Other projections on the matterhorn that have been shown in the past few weeks include hearts, hashtags such as “#hope” and “#AllOfUs,” and flags of various countries that have been struggling with coronavirus.
The projections can be seen each night on webcams that are displaying them.
“Zermatt is convinced: as strong as the Matterhorn, so strong must the society stand together, be anchored and let the storm pass,” Zermatt Tourism said.
This is exactly what we need right now! We should be putting our politics and our differences aside to come together as citizens of the world as we fight this pandemic as one. After all the negativity that this virus has brought to us, we hope that one positive will be that once it is finally gone, we will be a more unified planet than ever before.
