The women on The View have made their dislike for President Donald Trump clear over the last three years. Their views about the president have become even more crystalized as the nation deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

The president called himself a “wartime president” in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Sara Haines, one of the show’s co-hosts, began the conversation on the talkshow by saying the coronavirus should be addressed “with the severity and the concern it deserves.” She didn’t have an issue with Trump calling himself a wartime president.

“I don’t care what he calls it. It just needs to be taken seriously,” Haines said.

Meghan McCain, the show’s only conservative, agreed. But Sunny Hostin, a progressive liberal and harsh critic of the president, said it made her “very uncomfortable” when the president called himself that. Hostin said Trump is attempting to “reframe his legacy” after he “dodged” the draft for the Vietnam War.

She said, “Wartime presidents take responsibility for their failures and he has been unwilling to do that. If you look at any video of his responses from January up until even now, I think there’s been a lack of leadership.”

Haines responded by arguing that Trump’s legacy is not yet sealed. She said, “If it means he is saying stronger things and people are more scared, more cautious about what they’re doing out and about, then I can get on board. People need to take this very seriously.”

Hostin said, “I think he’s the liar in chief, and I refuse to give him the moniker of a wartime president. He doesn’t deserve that.”
