According to the New York Post, Peter Levine, 51, is refusing to let his 21-year-old son, Matt, back into his home after the college student went on a spring break trip to Texas.

Peter tried to get his son to leave spring break early due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 (coronavirus) spreading. His son had visited South Padre Island with his friends from Springfield College, a popular retreat from school, but failed to heed his father’s warnings, which is why this decision was made.

Peter says, “I was aggravated. The news here was getting worse and worse,” referring to the coronavirus outbreak. He claimed he spoke with Matt every day, urging him to come home.

After being ignored, Peter decided to keep his home safe by not allowing his son and friends to enter the home. One thing that is very important here. Peter’s grandparents lived in the family home, and he didn’t want them exposed to a possible virus, which I can understand.

“We were only allowed to go to the beach in small groups and couldn’t have speakers; by then, there was basically no one on the island,” said Matt, a senior majoring in sports management. “The police seemed like they were trying to ruin our good time.

Once they arrived, Dad met them at the door, and blocked them from coming in.

“I had filled the trunk of Matt’s car with groceries and left him an envelope containing $300 in cash,” Peter said. “All the guys’ keys were on the front seat. They got out of the car [from the airport] near our driveway and I said, ‘Stay right there! Do not go any further!’ The guys were tired and they had a two-and-a-half hour drive ahead of them. I love my son, but they were not sleeping here. I said, ‘If any of you have to pee, we have some bushes.’ Two of them took me up on it.

As is the case at most American colleges, Springfield has canceled its in-person classes and closed the campus. But Matt — who had planned to move back to Nanuet after the semester — will have to stay with roommates in their off-campus house a while longer.

“Their lease ends in June and none of the parents want them home,” said Peter. “It’s too risky.” [NY Post]

Let’s be honest. Would you allow your son back in the home after countless warnings and attempts to protect him from possible virus risks? Things are deteriorating in New York from the last reports. Even the police are calling in sick and testing positive for coronavirus, yet this young man thought the police were trying to ruin their good time.

Kudos to the father!
