The Russian Federation yesterday officially closed its border to anything but select emergency and commerce traffic. The shutdown will start tomorrow.
“The authorities said they so far had recorded 1,264 confirmed cases, an increase of 228 in 24 hours, and ordered that all vehicle, rail and pedestrian checkpoints, as well as the country’s maritime borders, be closed from Monday,” reported The Moscow Times. The only exceptions will be diplomats and drivers of freight trucks.

In addition, the capital of the Russian Federation has initiated a full quarantine starting tomorrow to deal with the mushrooming epidemic.
The self-isolation order will apply to all residents regardless of age. According to the decree, Moscow residents will only be allowed to leave their homes for:
- Emergency medical care;
- Traveling to work if one is unable to work remotely;
- Going to the nearest grocery store or pharmacy;
- Walking pets within a 100-meter radius from their residence;
- Taking out the garbage.
People who leave their homes are ordered to maintain at least a 1.5-meter distance between themselves and others, wrote The Moscow Times.
“The extremely negative turn of events that we are seeing in the largest cities in Europe and the United States has caused great concern for the lives and health of our citizens,” declared Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his website.
The measure will be enforced by electronic surveillance.
