Rush Limbaugh. YouTube

Talk radio host and author Rush Limbaugh announced on air that he has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Born Rush Hudson Limbaugh III in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Limbaugh is 69.

Perhaps no other radio talk show figure is as widely known. Limbaugh began his career in 1967 as a disc jockey, working at different stations around the country. He rose to prominence and fame at WABC in New York in 1988, where his show entered syndication. He currently broadcasts from his home studio in Palm Beach, FL.

A fervent critic of liberalism, Limbaugh became one of the most influential voices of the right, earning a letter of praise from Ronald Reagan, an honorary seat in the 1994 freshman GOP House caucus, and the enduring friendship of President Trump.

Limbaugh’s success has grown his personal fortune to more than $500 million, this despite three divorces. He has been the most influentlial voice in terrestrial radio, challenged in the past 40 years only occasionally by the likes of Howard Stern in salary, but not listeners.

Limbaugh hopes to be back on air by Thursday to comment further.

Given the heightened political climate surrounding the impeachment proceedings, it may come as no surprise to some that liberals used the occasion of this announcement to disparage Limbaugh.
