The U.S. is the world’s most powerful and richest democracy. But we are not the largest, that honor goes to India. Like this country, a former British colony.

To prove their commitment to democratic forms and their tremendous affection for President Trump and America, 110,000 people turned out Monday to enthusiastically welcome to India the president, the FLOTUS, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India. The huge crowd went wild for the president and his wife.

The president was also in a good mood and shared it with the people of India and BJP, the ruling political party, Prime Minister and Trump ally Narendra Modi.

“I am pleased to announce that tomorrow our representatives will sign deals to sell over $3 billion in the absolute finest state of the art military helicopters and other equipment to the Indian armed forces,” said President Trump.

This will no doubt greatly please the Indians as they face serious security challenges from both China and Chinese ally Pakistan. Trump continued.

“The United States and India are also firmly united in our iron-clad resolve to defend our citizens from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism. Both of our countries have been hurt by the pain and turmoil of terrorism and that terrorism brings.”

The president not only references Islamist terrorist attacks against the U.S. and U.S. forces but numerous domestic terrorist attacks launched against India from Pakistan.

The president concluded with, “India will soon be the home of the biggest middle class anywhere in the world. And within less than 10 years, extreme poverty in your country is projected to completely disappear. The potential for India is absolutely incredible.”

It is indeed.

As one of the up and coming BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), that are tagged to gain sustained prominence later this century, Brazil and India are the two that are functioning democracies with a stable legal system.

India is the biggest of the two and, as the president said, her potential for economic growth is fantastic. However, that sunny prediction is clouded by her geostrategic position next to China and in regional proximity to Russia. That location, in the not too distant future, could prove problematic.
