Like a Tarantino film, the Democratic primary has turned into a movie within a movie.
One alternate plot is the left-wing primary of Sanders and Warren. The moderate, at least by Democrat standards, primary of the rest is the other film inside a film.
In the left-wing battle (we’ll cover the other in another piece today) the war is already over. Bernie Sanders is beating Liz Warren like a Baptist in an Italian neighborhood.
Evidence for the prosecution? Last night’s debate and the numbers themselves.
Like him or not, Sanders was on last night. But it seemed kinda mundane because Sanders is on every night. Remember, we’re talking politics not ideology, marketing not ideas.

He hammers home his socialist points —thinly disguised communism without yet the secret police— forcefully and has a crazy uncle/tummler thing going that makes you laugh sometimes. And he smiles a lot, which makes him human. For a Bolshie robot he was programmed with a pretty sophisticated personality chip.
Liz Warren has become my favorite candidate to watch because she’s like a crazed coke fiend at an Escobar family reunion. In debate she lashes out indiscriminately at anything that moves. Then when you think she’s gone waaay over the top already, she goes back into the fight, knife wedged between her teeth, hysterically cackling in sheer orgiastic delight.
But, we don’t elect people to office who lose it like that in public. Howard Dean, anyone?
Bernie’s numbers are high, because most Democrats are latent communists, and he may be the man to beat at the convention already. NBC media types previewed that line last night and nobody called them at it. His support is better than it was in 2016 and he won the nomination then only to have it stolen in Philadelphia. I was there. I saw it happen.

This time, as Sanders pointed out last night, there are 500 party hack super-delegates waiting to kick him to the curb on the second ballot of the convention. But he still will be a kingmaker, as we’ve said all along.

Liz can’t get out of the middle of the pack in poll numbers and her “I am woman hear me roar” shtick is now just grating even to sensible feminist harpies. Her support is nebulous at best and thin as gruel at worst. Her campaign recalls Gertrude Stein’s line about Oakland, CA, “There is no there there.”
Warren may be a factor in Milwaukee in a delegate fight, when every vote will count. But in the primary process? She’s likely about to be put in a political wood chipper by Bernie Sanders.
