One of the enduring myths promulgated by very stupid people is that communism, or its wussy little sister socialism, may be bad but it has some redeeming qualities. When you hear someone say that, quickly grab the drool bucket, because they are sure to blow any second.

On “60 Minutes” on Sunday, Bernie Sanders took that tack and generally doubled down on his view that the slave island of Cuba is a worker’s paradise of dusky senoritas and happy proles.

Sanders said, “We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know? When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?”

Sanders is lying, as usual.

First, he is not opposed to the “authoritarian nature” of the Cuban communist regime because the public record shows he has praised it all of his adult life.

Sanders has consistently lauded Cuba and implicitly its internal suppression of dissent while condemning American policies that opposed the oppression of the Cuban people. Sanders has been an apologist for communists and communism for decades. He now tries to sing another tune because he is courting conventional Democrats.

Castro’s literacy program? It never happened.

It is a propaganda line thrown out by the Cuban communists so their agents of influence, and perhaps agents of more than that, like Sanders would spread the line to distract from the firing squads and theft of property that have been the hallmark of the Castro brother’s dictatorship of Cuba.

And even if true, what real good is literacy if the state controls what you may read?

The Cubans themselves publicly praise and privately laugh at American toadies like Sanders. Not only for his obsequious loyalty but for his continued fanboy love of socialism. The Cuban communist regime discarded formal socialism long ago for everybody except its own people.

Not sure about that? Fly to Cuba through Mexico and stay at one of the hotels on the beaches of Havana. As you mingle with herds of Brits and Scandies you’ll see that most types of consumer goods are available to the tourists. It’s three-star tops, granted. But Marx and Engels would not have appreciated the breakfast buffets at all. Okay, maybe Marx.

Why don’t regular Cubans get to play in those hotels? Because the regime realizes if they started to indulge in the fruits of the free market thoughts of freedom in other areas may come upon them as well.

This is the murderous communist regime that Sanders has been loyal to, much more than he has to the U.S., during his time in politics. And now he is the Democrat front-runner. That current status of Sanders and his virulent ideology says more about the Democrats as a whole than it actually does about Bernie Sanders and his love of communism.
