Conservative social media and along with top websites jumped at the chance to throw an alleged statement from Sen. Dianne Feinstein at Democrats on Wednesday morning but that was soon put to rest when the California lawmaker realized she had created a major tsunami.

Most of the outlets were reporting that Feinstein would be open to “acquittal” of Pres. Trump against the Democrat-led House Impeachment articles, which many have claimed not to have any weight or was just an attempt to have influence over the 2020 election, knowing they wouldn’t be successful with removing Trump from office.

Feinstein spoke to reporters after Trump’s defense team finished their opening arguments and per the LA Times, she said “Nine months left to go, the people should judge. We are a republic, we are based on the will of the people — the people should judge… That was my view and it still is my view.”

She then added:

“That was my view and it still is my view.”

Still, she indicated that arguments in the trial about Trump’s character and fitness for office had shifted her thinking. “What changed my opinion as this went on,” she said, is a realization that “impeachment isn’t about one offense. It’s really about the character and ability and physical and mental fitness of the individual to serve the people, not themselves.”

In a later written statement, in which she said she had initially been “misunderstood,” Feinstein said “it’s clear the president’s actions were wrong.”

“There is substantial weight to this,” she said, “and the question is: Is it enough to cast this vote?”

It seems her state newspaper got it wrong  as they titled their article; “Feinstein leans toward acquitting Trump as his lawyers end their impeachment defense arguments.”

Feinstein jumped on Twitter and released this statement before it got worse:

“The LA Times misunderstood what I said today. Before the trial I said I’d keep an open mind. Now that both sides made their cases, it’s clear the president’s actions were wrong. He withheld vital foreign assistance for personal political gain. That can’t be allowed to stand.”
