Chief Franco Fuda of Bonneau, South Carolina was at home on Monday when he heard a knock on his door.
He answered it and stepped outside to speak with a man when suddenly things turned dark and ugly, and the man told the chief that he was going to “die today” and then proceeded to stab him in the face, hitting him right below the eye.
Right after he was stabbed, the chief called 911 and the suspect took off and went back to his mobile home.
A responding SWAT team instructed Bowman to come out of his home a number of times before sending in a robot to determine his location.
Shortly thereafter, the team made an entry and discovered Bowman hiding between a wall and a mattress. Reports noted that a judge denied bond Tuesday evening after Bowman had been charged with attempted murder, assault, and other charges.
A spokesman with the sheriff’s office told Live5 that officers also lobbed a tear gas grenade into the mobile home prior to entry.
Police also said that Bowman had been arrested recently after he threatened officers and the pastor of a local church.
He was released on bond a short while after his arrest.
One woman told Live5 she has known the suspect most of his life.
“I used to feed him at my house, he was a good friend of my sons,” Debbie Hood told the station. ”I’ve known him since he was a child. But he’s mixed up I guess with the wrong crowd. It’s sad. It’s very sad.”
Records show that Mr. Bowman. had threatened the chief before.
It was 2 years ago, and he was released on bond and for some reason never went to trial.
