From Bartender to Political Big Spender: AOC Pours $1 Million Into Michigan Senate Race

Former bartender turned Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is serving up something stronger than cocktails these days: a $1 million political contribution to help Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed defeat Republican Mike Rogers in November’s U.S. Senate race.

A Million-Dollar Tip?

According to CBS News [1], the New York progressive has contributed a whopping $1 million to El- Sayed’s Senate campaign. So much for the Democrats constantly complaining about getting money out of politics. They don’t really mean it. They just want rich Republicans to stop putting money into campaigns against them.

And even though El-Sayed whines every day about Rogers’ allies spending lots and lots of money against him, the Muslim candidate is the one with the big money behind him. AOC’s congressional campaign donation comes just one day after El-Sayed’s campaign reported raising $30.66 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, more than triple the $9.66 million raised by his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, according to the latest campaign finance reports.

So how does a former bartender come up with a million bucks? Did she save up her tips? Not exactly.

The money comes from her political fundraising operation, not her personal bank account. Ocasio- Cortez has reportedly raised more than $17 million for her own reelection campaign, giving her considerable financial muscle to support fellow progressives like El-Sayed.

Michigan Gets a Shot of AOC

Ocasio-Cortez has also been campaigning across Michigan with El-Sayed, hoping her progressive star power and financial support will help push him across the finish line. AOC may be picking up the tab, but Michigan voters will decide on November 3rd whether El-Sayed is worth the million-dollar tip.
